Valentine’s Day Gift Guide: 14 Gifts for Him & Her

WWR-032-E1-Valentine-1024x512

Tis the season to love, and more importantly, express your love. We know – it’s much easier said than done. The quest for the perfect gift can be a challenging one, especially when flowers and chocolate-covered strawberries are now the bare minimum. Don’t fret! We’re here to help you think outside the box. Whether you are looking to spend some serious dough or are on a tight budget, we’ve gathered our top Valentine’s Day gift picks for both guys and gals.

FOR HER:

1. Socialite Smart Bracelet by WiseWear. A gorgeous bracelet that combines smart technology with style – what more could a girl ask for? Geared with features such as activity trackingdistress messaging and mobile notifications, the Socialite smart bracelet will quickly become one of her most beloved and functional accessories. Beyond counting steps and such like your typical fitness tracker, this wearable will go above and beyond by keeping her safe. With a simple tap, she can send a distress signal to you and her loved ones when she’s feeling ill at ease. This includes both a text message and her geo-tagged location, so you know exactly where she triggered the alarm. Not to mention, its outward appearance as luxury jewelry is “both inconspicuous to would-be attackers and incredibly beautiful to observers,” stated Fast Company (read the article here). She doesn’t have to be a techie or fashionista to fall in love with this smart accessory. It’s a gadget that will benefit her health and safety, while keeping her connected to the things and people that matter most.

2. A Velvety Soft Blanket. This may seem unoriginal, but blankets actually make the best gifts – specifically the luxurious, velvety soft ones that most people aren’t willing to splurge on. A great blanket will always get used, never go out of style, and most importantly, last a lifetime. Choose a neutral color/pattern and the softest material you can find, like this ‘CozyChic’ Ribbed Blanket by Barefoot Dreams, and voila – she’ll be snuggling up with this household staple for years to come.

3. Adult Coloring Book. If you’re looking for ways to help her de-stress or perhaps refresh her creative energy, forget the massage certificate and grab her a coloring book instead! This nostalgic childhood hobby made a huge comeback this past year, specifically geared towards adults who often face high volumes of stress. There’s something comforting about coloring in between the lines. In fact, it’s been proven that coloring reduces anxiety because it prompts the mind and body to operate together in a more integrated way. These adult coloring books incorporate geometric shapes and calming patterns to alleviate stress and relax the mind. Consider it a form of meditation. She’ll love this Posh Adult Coloring Book: Inspirational Quotes for Fun & Relaxation by Deborah Muller.

4. A Luxury Silk Robe. Shopping for intimate items like lingerie can be awkward and intimidating, especially when it’s for someone else. Buying the wrong size may come off as unintentionally offensive. And let’s be honest – who really wants to spend hours sticking out like a sore thumb at Victoria’s Secret? Avoid the unnecessary headache and opt for a silky soft robe like this ‘Dahlia’ Charmeuse Robe by Flora Nikrooz. It’s comfy, practical and still sexy nonetheless. Whether it’s after a long day at the office or lounging on the weekends, there’s no doubt she’ll be reaching for this staple on a daily basis.

5. Workout Gear & Accessories. Every gal can always appreciate a stylish workout top or new pair of yoga pants. Even if she’s not planning on working up a sweat, it’s just easy to throw on some workout clothes and go. If you haven’t noticed already, more and more people are embracing the trend of flaunting activewear beyond the gym. Chic athletic apparel and at-home workout gear make great gifts that will encourage her to live a healthy and active lifestyle. If she’s not your typical gym junkie, gift her a slip-resistant yoga mat or a foam roller for post-workout massages. You’ll get extra kudos for promoting her health and wellness! Because a healthy girl is a happy girl.

6. Wine & Cheese Tasting. Just like you and your significant other, wine and cheese go hand in hand. Who can resist such a tasty pairing? Believe it or not, there’s actually a science to choosing the right wine and cheese to compliment one another. And there’s nothing quite like the combination to put you in a romantic mood. Search for a local guided tasting class, or head over to your nearest Whole Foods or Central Market. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, do some research and have your own personal tasting at home

7. Inspirational Stationery & Trinkets. Every now and then, we could all use a few words of motivation and encouragement to get us through the day… especially when they’re in practical form like this ‘Live Fully’ metallic journal or this ‘Think Happy, Be Happy’ glass trinket tray. These little gifts are thoughtful and let her know that you’re fully invested in her happiness. There’s nothing sweeter than being a daily source of inspiration.

FOR HIM:

8. Brewery Tour. If your man likes to drink beer and experience new things, then a brewery tour is a no-brainer gift! There are probably a handful of local craft breweries nearby that give tours followed by guided tastings, so you can get the full hands-on experience. This gift is a fun excuse to go on a day date, enjoy a few cold beers and learn something new together.

9. Accessories for Formal Wear. Generally speaking, most guys could use some help in the style department. Even if his go-to wardrobe consists mainly of casual shirts and jeans, there will always come a time when he needs to dress for the occasion. From weddings to office holiday parties, it’s your job to dress him to the nines for special events. Don’t let him walk out the door looking like he put his outfit together in the dark, especially if you’re his date! When it comes to the eleventh hour, it’s probably best that you avoid last-minute shopping, or even worse, settling for that hideous sports jacket his mom bought him in the 90s. You don’t need to splurge on a Giorgio Armani suit, but you can help build his formal wear collection with little accessories like these designer cotton blend socks by Nordstrom Men’s Shop or this Native Herringbone skinny tie by The Tie Bar.

10. A Set of Heavenly Soft Bed Sheets. If he still has his own pad, it’s likely that he doesn’t spend too much time sprucing up his living space. As you can imagine, men have only a few basic requirements for their abode: a bed, a couch, a bathroom and a kitchen. Add your personal touch to his place by gifting him some heavenly soft bed sheets. Check out this 400 thread count sheet set by Nordstrom at Home. If you spend the night often or if you already live together, then it’s a win-win gift for both of you to enjoy!

11. Tasteful Home Decor for His Space. Home decor typically ranks as one of the lesser priorities for most men. Ask him yourself – when was the last time he spent money on some new pillows or a luxury scented candle? Tasteful decor plays an important role in transforming any space into something more pleasant and enjoyable. Whether it’s for his man cave or office space, this personal gift will serve as a thoughtful reminder of you. For some ideas, check out this adorable Succulent Planter by Z Gallerie or this Seeded Glass Edison Table Lamp by Target. If you’re on a budget, you can make your own minimalist copper lamp or choose one of these 15 easy DIY succulent planters.

12. Hydro Flask. Don’t you hate it when the ice in your water melts or your coffee gets cold too quickly? Not anymore with Hydro Flask. This vacuum insulated stainless steel water bottle will keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 6 hours. Not to mention, it never sweats and is durable as heck (if it happens to break, it comes with a lifetime warranty). Hydro Flask also donates 5% back to a charity of your choice with any purchase.

13. Leather Goods. Anything leather makes a great gift for any man, whether it’s a belt, watch strap, wallet, gloves… you name it. No other material can compare to its durability, unique textures, coloration, or even the smell. It’s simply classic and timeless. Check out these gorgeous wallets by Will Leather Goods or this Cognac Leather Toiletry Case by Pottery Barn. Etsy also has a wide variety of affordable leather goods that you can get personalized with his initials or perhaps an inspiring quote.

14. The Art of Shaving Kit. Every guy needs to groom at one point of another. Make it a luxurious experience for him with these elegant shaving kits by The Art of Shaving. Their high-quality products provide optimal shaving results, all while helping to soothe and smooth their skin. Ranging from as low as $30, it’s definitely worth it to splurge on the perfect shave.

A New Era of Wearables with Iris Apfel

WWR-IrisBanner-1170x500_blogslider

She’s bold. She’s fierce. She’s the 94-year-old style icon who’s designing your next wearable. Meet Iris Apfel, the new face of WiseWear.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this feisty fashionista, you’ve probably come across her unforgettable face at some point – it’s often adorned with those iconic, thick-rimmed spectacles. Or you’ve probably heard someone mention her as “that lady with the glasses.” Perhaps you’ve seen her charming documentary IRIS (if you haven’t, it’s now being featured on Netflix).

For the past 60-something years, Iris has graced the world with her artistic talent and impeccable taste. Her career set off in 1950 when she and her husband launched Old World Weavers, a restorational textile company. Together they traveled the world, shopping for fabrics while simultaneously building Iris’ eccentric collection of one-of-a-kind accessories and fashion pieces. She also served as an interior designer for the White House for nearly half a century, working with the wives of nine presidents.

Well affiliated with the New York interior design crowd, Iris eventually grabbed the attention of a curator from the Met Museum, who caught wind of her ostentatious wardrobe. He asked if she would create an art exhibition showcasing her personal collection of fashion and accessories accumulated throughout the years. It was this exhibition, dubbed Rara Avis: Selections from the Iris Apfel Collection, that set Iris apart as something very rare and far from ordinary. Today, she continues to inspire people of all ages to adopt their own unique style as the truest form of self-expression.

This is one of many reasons why we wanted to work with Iris. Her years of wisdom and wit make her the perfect example of a modern day woman – confident, beautiful, smart and independent. To put it in other words, she’s a true symbol for beauty and brains. If you’ve seen her documentary, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.

In the documentary, you might also recall Iris touching on the frequent, sometimes fatal, issue of her friends falling. The self-proclaimed “geriatric starlet” has undergone two hip operations herself – one after tripping over the hem of an Oscar de la Renta dress at a Paris fashion shoot. This recurring topic of seniors at risk of falling was one that sparked an interest with Iris, as soon as she learned that our founder’s grandfather had experienced such a fatal fall (read about it in this Fast Company article).

His passing was what inspired Dr. Wilmink to start WiseWear. As stated in the article, Wilmink’s original plan was to create a hearing aid that could measure when the user was at risk of falling, and would react by telling the user to sit down. Although the hearing aid never came to fruition, one thing led to another – ultimately resulting in an antenna system that could transmit Bluetooth signals through metal. This is now the breakthrough technology that fuels our Socialite smart bracelets.

Although Socialite can’t detect falls (just yet), it can track your activity, provide vibrating mobile notifications, and send distress signals to your loved ones in times of potential danger. The unique safety feature is one that Iris values most, stating that, “something like this can alert those who care about me if I take a flop because falling can be very dangerous, particularly when you get old in age.”

Lavish and lovely: a shot from her latest documentary, IRIS, shot and directed by Albert Maysles.

By tapping the bracelet to your custom sequence (i.e. three taps), Socialite sends a discreet text message to your pre-approved list of contacts, notifying them of your exact location. Beyond falls, you can also tap the bracelet when feeling vulnerable, threatened, or endangered. Click here to read more about how the safety feature works.

During our one-on-one interview, Iris made a point that, “this is not just technology that’s useful for elderly people; there are a lot of young people that can benefit as well. The Socialite bracelet can measure your activity, how active you are, and all kinds of good stuff. We don’t want any couch potatoes in the crowd.”

At 94 years young, the slender muse is still always on-the-go, flying from international fashion shows to photo shoots and elite social events. She admits that she is very active and doesn’t sit still very much.

On another note, Iris also believes that the “de-teching” aspect of Socialite will serve useful, with vibrating mobile notifications and lack of a distracting LED screen. She once said, “People are so tied up in the worst parts of technology these days. They don’t use their imagination.

If we’ve learned one thing, it’s that imagination is vital to spark creativity and innovation. Iris has preserved a unique childlike quality to imagine a world of endless possibilities – and it’s unlike anything we’ve encountered before with any other fashion designer.

With Iris by our side, we’re feeling more inspired than ever to design a fresh line of luxury wearables and introduce it to the high-fashion world. Indeed, technology is a beautiful thing and wearing it should be too. Cheers to a new era of fashion-first wearables that truly speak style.

With the holidays and new year just around the corner, it’s no surprise that many of us are scrambling to put together a few outfits that will truly make a statement. Whether it’s a holiday office party or an unexpected end-of-year celebration, you’ll be looking your absolute best with our #StyleWithSocialite inspiration. This week, we paired the crowd-pleasing Calder (in gold) with a creamy white, cashmere-infused wool sweater dress, a pair of luminous drop earrings, and a versatile hobo bag. We added a dash of color to the neutral palette by including a comfortable pair of dark red suede stiletto pumps, plus a pretty swatch of deep berry red nail polish. To top it off, stay warm with either a classic wrap trench coat OR cozy faux fur vest. Soft, elegant, sophisticated – this ensemble is perfect for the more formal and rare occasions.

Back in the 80s, “power” suits were deemed as appropriate attire for the working woman. Coming in a limited array of boring, flat colors, adorned with bulky, padded shoulders, with an utter disregard for the feminine figure, suits were seen as uniforms that would help women climb the ladder in the professional workplace. Fortunately nowadays, the modern day woman is still able to make her way up to the top, minus the lackluster ensemble. Let’s just say – we’ve come a long way.

This week’s #StyleWithSocialite features an outfit you can don with the utmost confidence when walking into (or out of) the office. For starters, if you don’t have a staple pair of black slacks, then it’s safe to say that your professional wardrobe is lacking! Find a pair that fits comfortably at the waist, with a tapered leg that falls perfectly in place alongside your ankles. We chose a flowy, silk blouse to match on top, giving perfect hints of feminine and professional. Complement the blouse’s V-line with a crystal-encrusted V-shaped pendant to add a modern interest to your look. Lastly (and most importantly), nothing screams “lady boss” more than a standout pair of pointy, lace-up pumps. Throw on your Kingston, toss your essentials in a generous hobo bag, swipe on some bold, dark plum lipstick, and you’re ready to go!

Style with Socialite: The Duchess

WWR-032-G2-Collage-1024x512

  1. WiseWear Socialite Collection: The Duchess in Gold, $299.95
  2. Rag & Bone Ashby Ankle Booties in Granite, $525
  3. Vince Camuto Slub Knit Drop Shoulder Turtleneck in Smoke Heather, $59.90
  4. Yves Saint Laurent Monogramme Textured-Leather Camera Bag in Black, $995
  5. Trina Turk Geo Cutout Drop Earrings in Gold, $88
  6. High Waisted Ribbed Sweater Pencil Skirt in Olive Green, $49.90

Looking for a pop of color to turn your outfit from drab to fab? Hit a home run with the Duchess! You’ll be sure to make a statement with this Socialite. This week’s #StyleWithSocialite features a gorgeous deep olive green pencil skirt to accentuate your curves in all the right places, and a neutral slouchy turtleneck to keep your top portion more voluminous (and less fitted) to balance the whole look. If you’re feeling bold, swap the turtle neck for a fitted blouse and leather jacket. Throw on a classic pair of heeled ankle boots to add some height and elongate your stems! Then, finish off your look with some fun accessories, including gold geometric drop earrings and a rather understated compact bag to hold a few of your basic necessities. Say hello to chic and sexy!

Style with Socialite: The Calder

WWR-032-F2-Collage-1024x512

  1. WiseWear Socialite Collection: The Calder in Palladium, $299.95
  2. Steve Madden Raela Pump in Black Nubuck, $109.95
  3. Ivanka Trump Marled Knit Top in Black Heather Gray, $79
  4. KUT Lincoln Faux Leather Drape Front Jacket in Bordeaux, $88
  5. Kate Spade Cedar Street Small Jensen Leather Tote in Black, $378
  6. Nadri Round Cubic Zirconia Stud Earrings in Silver/Clear Crystal, $38
  7. Citizens of Humanity Skinny Stretch Leggings in Axle, $188

This week, we’re pairing the beloved Calder with that modern street-chic “cool girl” style. Perfect for any occasion; you can sport this outfit in the office, at a work happy hour, to a girls’ night out, or even date night. Luxe textures paired with chic layers and a flattering color palette is the perfect recipe to looking effortlessly fashionable. You can pull this simple look together by grabbing your wardrobe staples (i.e. black skinny jeans, leather jacket, neutral-colored top, and a pair of sexy pumps), swipe on some red lipstick, and voilà, you’re ready to hit the streets in style!

Style with Socialite: The Kingston

WWR-032-E2-Collage-1024x512

1. Dolce Vita Garim Wedge Bootie in Taupe Suede, $79.90

2. Kendra Scott Sophee Drop Earrings in Gold, $50

3. BB Dakota Renley Lace Fit & Flare Dress in Aubergine, $88

4. WiseWear Socialite Collection: Kingston, $299.95

5. Madewell Transport Tote in English Saddle, $168

You can sport this outfit anytime of the year, really. Since it’s mid-fall, we decided to pair the gold Kingston with a flirty lace dress in burgundy (this season’s favorite color), a pair of classic taupe suede booties, and a soft leather “carry-all” tote bag. To top it off, we complemented this chic ensemble with a pair of romantic gold drop earrings from local Austin jewelry designer, Kendra Scott. This flouncy day-to-night outfit can be worn with a simple cardigan in the office, or dressed up with a contemporary black blazer for the night out. Feeling the winter chills already? Throw on a pair of black tights and a wool coat, and you’ll be ready to endure the cold weather in style.

No matter which Socialite you choose, you’re bound to make a statement everywhere you go. And did we mention that all bracelets are interchangeable with one another? Purchase different styles and platings (in gold and palladium) to build your collection.

Feel the Difference with Socialite

WWR-032-D3-Differentiation-1024x512

From Socialite’s
tech features to fashion & design elements, we’ve covered a whole lot of ground this past month. As you can (hopefully) tell, we’ve dedicated so much time and brainpower into creating the perfect wearable for all women alike.

Since the inception of wearable tech, consumers have been limited to a narrow selection of wearables; most of which have paid little attention to aesthetics. First generation wearables are clunky, rubber, with colors that are either too masculine or too vibrant. Can a modern day woman get some variety up in here?! Thinking from such a consumer’s perspective, we bent over backwards to incorporate the most important details and features into an all-in-one product that speaks for itself.

Because the modern day woman is one of many things (class, independence, beauty and brains, to name a few), we tackled the great challenge of creating a solution that would help her achieve this ever-delicate balance. Behold, the Socialite Collection!

To top off this month’s theme of #DiscoverWiseWear, we’ve compiled our thoughts on what sets Socialite apart from others in the exciting newfound world of fashion-first wearables.

  • Breakthrough Technology
    • We combined the latest in ultra-small accelerometer technology and motion processing units into a small, light, but powerful package that could fit within a bracelet. Naturally, being all metal, the bracelet generated a challenging technological obstacle – how to get the radio signal out of the bracelet. We engineered an innovative solution using the bracelet itself (being electrically conductive) as part of the antenna, resulting in two U.S. patent applications. The advanced sensors are housed in the BRAIN component (bottom half of bracelet), offering the most accurate activity tracking and seamless two-way communication between the user and the device.
  • Equal Parts Function + Fashion
    • Instead of limiting the consumer to one primary function (i.e. Fitbit and activity tracking, Ringly and mobile notifications), we combined three meaningful features into one bracelet. This includes activity trackingmobile notifications, and distress messaging. Each feature plays a fundamental role in most users’ lifestyles, for their sake of health & wellness, constant connectivity, and safety. While we do specialize in sensing technologies, we also have a strong focus on design and aesthetics – simply put, making things truly wearable.
    • To us, fashion is equally as important as function… especially in the realm of wearables. What’s the point if you’re not crazy about wearing it? Wearables can serve many purposes, but the one most overlooked is its ability to serve as a form of self-expression. As mentioned in Socialite Design Elements and Inspiration, “we wanted to design pieces that would be fitting for all kinds of lifestyles and spent a lot of time considering how and when the bracelet would be worn throughout the day.” We think the Socialite is perfect for ladies who are always hustling on-the-go, are rather health-conscious, jump from work to working out, desire to stay connected without the extra noise, etc. No matter where you go or what outfit you’re wearing, Socialite is fitting for all occasions.
  • High-Quality Materials
    • Each Socialite bracelet is made of brass and plated with precious metals, such as gold and palladium. Our fine, nonporous metal materials are made to maintain its quality and shine over time. Such materials also provide a more intimate and luxurious feel for users. We also designed Socialite to fit any person with a wrist circumference of 6.5 inches or less, so the bracelet has enough free space to move in sync with your body.

  • Interchangeability: Mix-and-Match to Your Style
    • All bracelets in the Socialite Collection are interchangeable with one another, so you can separate the top portion from the bottom and change styles as often as you’d like. You have the ability to mix and match different styles with the simple detachment of the top and bottom halves using a small screwdriver. Purchase different platings and style to build your very own Socialite Collection.
  • Made to Fit Your Lifestyle
    • Socialite’s ability to mix and match is one way you can customize the bracelet to accommodate your outfit or mood. You can also customize and manage the following settings on the accompanying Socialite mobile app:
      • Pre-approved list of contacts
      • Vibration patterns
      • Touch patterns
      • Types of notifications
      • Monitor your activity throughout the day (i.e. number of steps, distance traveled, time active/inactive, calories burned)
